Grade 1 artists have had an exciting end to the Year of the Dog – they’ve been studying cultures and connecting them to the clay techniques they’ve been learning in our second art unit, ‘How The World Works’.
Students have created pinch pot turtles they were inspired by Mexican Oaxacan animal art, coil vases inspired by Chinese porcelain and slab masks inspired by African tribal art.
Our young artists have planned some beautiful glaze designs in their books and can’t wait to paint their clay pieces when they come back from the Chinese New Year break.
Plus, as always, I encourage the family to take time to ask your young artist what they’re doing in Art class and how they feel about it. Reflection through discussion is a great opportunity to recall, revise and be thankful for our progress.
May you all have a wonderful break! And do let me know if you get the chance to see or make any clay or ceramic art over the holidays. Our Art action wall would love some new additions.
Xin nian kuai le!
