Week 15

Welcome to the last week until the winter holidays. I can’t believe how fast this year is going.

The students have had a mother busy week. A highlight in the week was the Hour of Code. They were able to try numerous activities that involved coding and they loved it. They were engaged, motivated and learning all at the same time!

At assembly last week, 5KF showed their many talents as they sang and performed. Over a quarter of the class performed in one way or another. Bianca and Irene sang beautifully and  The Princess Band had another outstanding performance. The boys are have put so much of their own time to practice and perfect their performance and it really showed. Even Mr Bruford stopped by to watch!

The children are very excited this week and we have lots of busy and fun activities happening. This week’s activities will included Secret Squirrel, baking, and some craft activities to wind up before the holidays.

Have a great week.

Week 12

Week 12 already!

The students have been very busy getting ready to present their learning about Migration which comes from out unit Where We Are In Place and Time. The students have been working across the grade level with students from other classes to research and present their understandings and new learnings.

We have been looking at the concepts of Highest Common Factors and Lowest Common Multiple and the students have discovered some very interesting patterns to solve these problems.

A busy week ahead for us as we present our Migration learning and then begin our new Unit if Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves.

As always thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your children.

Week 10

The weeks are flying by.

Thank you for coming to the 3 way conferences, this is a great opportunity for the students to share their learning with you and to be part of a learning discussion that directly concerns them.

Last week we carried on with our learning about Human Migration. The students have a really good understanding of the push and pull factors that influence reasons for migration. The student have been discussing their own migration stories which is really helping with their understanding.

We are having a focus on comprehension in our reading over the next few weeks, so if you are able to continue encouraging the students to read everyday and discuss what they are reading, that would be great.

Thanks again for the chance to work with your children.

Enjoy your week.

Week 8

Wow, what a busy week we have had. The students have been learning about 2D and 3d shapes in Maths. They had to create a 3D shape using unifix cubes and use isometric paper to draw their shape.

For UOI this week we have been exploring the concept of Migration. Working collaboratively with 5GA we drew a world map and mapped our own migration stories.

We are looking forward to a busy week next week with our trip to The Shanghai Jewish Settler’s Museum and the excitement of Book week.

Thanks for opportunity to work with your children. They make me smile everyday.
