- What were you expecting to learn from your Bridging Week experience?
I am expecting to be seeing how middle school is like and how it is going to work out for me. I am also expecting to see different ways in learning.
- What questions were answered for you as part of your experience?
Questions that were answered in my experience were: How are we going to eat/where? Answer: You can sit anywhere as long as you don’t interrupt a class.
- What questions remain unanswered for you?
Questions that were unanswered for me were: How is Chinese different from G5?
- What were some of your positive observations during your experience?
My positive observation during the session were how we got to eat at the Edu Cafe, explored more of the classes, met new teachers and made new friends.
- How could we make Bridging Week a better opportunity to learn about middle school?
Bridging week could be better if there were more activities to do with your buddy. For example, well being, the grade 6 students can do it when our bridging time is over (including science).
Next week we will be doing the bridging with a G6 student. My expectations for bridging week is to seeing how the classes go, the time and schedule, what personality my buddy has etc.
My dreams for middle school is to become more independent even though there was remote learning. When I am in middle school there will be no teacher leading the way, we will need to work on our own more, there are lots of places where you have to be alone in middle school.
My number 1 memory from Grade 5 is my Mr.Alksne and the grade 5 camp. Grade 5 camp was awesome, we went to Fairmont hotel, biking, playing, camping etc!
What I will miss from grade 5 is my teachers, friends, classroom learning.
This week we have been planning about our graduation, celebration of learning. Our graduation if for us to remember how our elementary was. We picked two pieces of writing one is a poem and the other one is a free choice. We are now moving up to middle school and did a lot of planning for our G5 graduation. The party for dinner was canceled because of CODIV-19.
For me, graduation means keeping the memories we had of elementary. Keeping these memories is very good because it brings us back to where we were in elementary.
We had our last class of mindfulness with Ms.Anu and she taught us a lot over this year, about how to calm ourselves and how to bring us back to present. She rings the bell which makes us calm more with it. We come back from our playing and Ms.Anu is here to teach us about how to bring us back and anchor our breathing. When I am mindful I like to sit somewhere alone and focus on my breathing.
My song recommendation is:
<Happy> Pharrell Williams
<Memories> Maroon 5
<Love Story> Taylor Swift
This week me and my friend Rachel made a maths game together. We played it with our class and then Ms.Flutey’s class. Our game was about fractions. We had some very good feedback from our class and Ms.Flutey’s class. We needed to get rid of some cards that would bring them back to the start. I liked the feedback they provided us because it has information we needed to improve our game and how we learn.
How have you been learning about change?
I have been learning about changes a lot this week. We even made a free verse poem about the changes we have. Changes are like transitions. All the G5 are soon going to transitioning to G6. Our changing are all different. There are relationships that will change, friends. Physical changes, social changes and thinking changes.
This week we had 3 tests of the Chinese placement test. It was for the middle school teachers to see where our Chinese was at. How fluent our speaking was, writing and understanding.
This week we have been doing poetry, I feel very confident in making poems, limericks. Making poems are very interesting and fun. I love how it rhymes and created such a nice beat, and, meaning. Writing a poem, is fun and exciting to me. Reading it out is also very funny.
Our Rube Goldberg plan is very creative, we have cards, dominos, doll, books, janga blocks, ramps, ball and plastic car etc. The Rube Goldberg we are going to create will make a beautiful artwork from paint, and paper. It splashes the water paint or just paint on to the paper while the container leaves a circle trace.
The significant changes is see it school is that, we have more poems we can write about, a big project from Art ,Music and P.E, no more exhibition and we don’t have library lessons anymore etc.
How I felt about the English placement test. (Reading and Writing)
I felt very confident and nervous on my English placement test. It was simple to me. The English placement test was about grammar. spelling and vocabulary. After that we needed to write about a new technology we might have created.
My fraction cushion was a very creative one, it had labels, drawings and examples. The fraction pillow was a very fun thing to do, it makes me calm right when I finish lunch or snack. The Fraction pillows show what I know and learned about fractions.
Self-Management Group Skills (Prioritising)
I have managed myself at home because of remote learning, I have been working in my room without getting distracted. In my room there are a lot of distractions, for example, technology. I have been very focus on my remote learning that I never touched my devices while work. I have also improved a lot on my independence, remote learning has also been a very good way to help me and other students to be more independent. 😁
In the last couple days for remote learning phase 4, I have been making a mandala. It made me. feel calm although I was in a bit rush of getting other work completed. Making a mandala can make me slow down what I am doing. Here is the photo of the mandala I made.
In the last few weeks for phase 3, I have made a play and care piece of art work. For me I think I felt messy for the play but I tested it out. For how I felt for the care topic I was very interested and into making it very specific and detailed by tracing and cutting it well. I am more comfortable with either one, cause it is because of how it is going to start and what it is going to be. For an example, if I were to draw something big for a very important project then there will be a draft which is like play and then we edit is and, or, make it better in a way you would like it to be. It is also what type or kind of art you are making. For instance, cartoon, cartoon is full of imagination and realistic is art like very detailed. Here is a photo of the art work.
My biggest achievement this week has been very good it was good for me because I have performed in front lots of adults for our production!!!!! I was one of the seven little dwarfs.
HWOO collaborative inquiry process has been going the way we have expected it to go. We have been through some rough areas but we had our teacher to help us get through the rough area.
We continue to challenge other Grade 5 homeroom classes in our Friday wellbeing sessions. Our secret strategies are to be quiet about who our secret agent is and make a plan other people won’t except us to plan it.
The best things about my Winter holiday were that I travel to Canada and met my friends that I haven’t met for about an year!
This week has been awesome because me and my friends made a fun and new game together and its the new decade that just started.
If I were the world government, I would make these changes: stop the littering, Donte money to the poor, make many Charitys etc.
I am looking forward to the weekend because I want to relax and have fun, I also have production on Saturday to enjoy!
