Reflection of the test preparation weeks

Reflection of the test preparation weeks

Shanghai school test

During the last two weeks, I went to Shanghai to take a school entry test. During the preparation I worked even harder than I did in SSIS. The school had a beautiful garden with a variety of plants and trees. The buildings were colorful and the teachers were kind and helpful. The test was harder than I expected it to be. However, that made me think that I still have a ginormous space to improve.

Question: How can I improve my English?

Detective Math

Ms. Flutey assigned my a Detective Math task. It requires you to solve fraction problems to find out the Where, When, Who, and Why. The Why part was hard, because you need to find all the 26 fractions related in order to find the message. Next time I think I should try extending myself by making my own one.

Question: Is that task one task of a series?

Makey Makey

We worked on Makey Makeys last week, they were a type of coding and electricity toy. A Makey Makey can control the basic keys (space, click, left, right etc.) if you plugged it in your computer. We used lots of conductive objects, such as Play Dough, Foil and Coins. I was a risk-taker, because I have never touched or seen something like that. Maybe next time I should try connecting Makey Makeys with Python, which is also a coding language.

Question: Can Makey Makeys help control the computer by adding more keys?

Similes and Metaphors

Last week, we also learned about Similes and Metaphors. They are a type of speech: A Simile compares to things by using the words, as or like; A metaphor says that something is something, it doesn’t really mean that something is really something, but it just refers to personality and other aspects. I think they are important in poems, because poems usually compare things.

Question: How many types of speech are there (for example, similes, metaphors and hyperboles)?

Movement & Music:

For P.E. and Music, we started our Movement and Music unit, it requires us to create a piece of music and add beneficial movements to it. Last week I nearly finished the music, which sounded cool and stylish, therefore I think that it was good for the movements. I am having a problem with adding visual arts because I can’t connect them with this unit, maybe I will ask Ms. Kendal about it. Next time, I should start working on the movements.

Questions: Are Reflections really that important? Are we allowed to go outside for recording our movements?

Dodgeball 3.0:

Mr. Max (an early-years P.E. teacher), took us to the gym to play dodge ball 3.0, it was a new game that we never played before. The rules are pretty complicated: There is a hoop castle in all the three teams, our goal is to hit the enemy’s hoop base and defend our own. Players are allowed to hit each other, and a frisbee can heal you. I liked it, because it is an attack and defend game, that made the game “Multitasking”. But I also think that the teams were unfair because our team had fewer people, a bad base location, and bigger angles to defend. Since we tried our best, we were persistent and didn’t give up.

Questions: How can we make the game easier for the weaker teams? Is there a dodge ball 4.0 or 3.1?

Movie making:

Last week, I spent time on movie making for the grade threes and below to get used to the new procedures, with Austin, Max, Yanchi, and Ms. Melinda. I think that we were confident since we didn’t have lots of time, it was connected to optimism. I learned a lot about camera angles, animations, and movie-making techniques. The best part is that we worked well together and did all the taking and editing for around 20 scenes. Something that we could have done better was that we should work more on task because sometimes we did get off task and started talking about random stuff

Question: Why can’t we open the AC even if we know that all people who came to school didn’t have the virus?

CODING:

On last Wednesday, 5KF did coding. We worked on three words: Persistence, Creativity, and Attention to detail. I liked the Soma cube activity. The Soma cube is a 3x3x3 cube that consists of many small pieces. It was challenging, but once you got a critical solution that you can memorize, you can finish the Soma cube in seconds. My high score was eleven seconds! As I said above, I think that we were mainly persistent and determined to finish the work.

Question: Will coding be the future language that we must learn, like English?

UOI Experiment

UOI Experiment

Today, I decided to make an experiment it turned out very interesting:

This is a reaction caused by positive and negative charge, because when I rubbed the straws, the towel gets the positive charge and both of the straws get negative charges, so when I try to put them next to each other, the straw will rotate (run away).

The Video of me Playing the piano is above

I have worked on Music a lot during remote learning, I practiced the piano, sang and listened to classical music. I enjoyed classical music because it has a variety of classical instruments playing, the mood is also sometimes happy and sad. My favorite piece is “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” it is energetic and has a lot of emotions, the violins and violas are like charging at the start.

I also decided to work on a few songs on the Piano, for example: “Faded” or “Summer”, they are pretty challenging, but practice makes perfect. I will also practice some songs for the band, I thought maybe after the break, we should do more recording if we could record “We will rock you” it’ll be cool, maybe we even need 50 people stomping and clapping!!!

Remote learning Reflection 3

Since the Corona Virus started spreading, I have started to work on Maths, Chess and Coding a lot. In this reflection I am going to talk about my daily life, it is sometimes boring, but gets busy, very busy sometimes. The interesting thing about the plan is that I only go out when I have time, for example, if I finished a task earlier than I expected, I would go out and take a walk.

Everyday, except weekends, I wake up, get dressed and brush my teeth at 7:45, start Breakfast at eight and get to work at nine, after I work for an hour, I have a break by doing the daily dance and sport task given by Mr. Murray, it relaxes me and keeps me fit. I play the piano at 10:30 and end at 11, that means I need to work again. I always take a game break at 12 and eat at 12:30. Next I start working two hours straight, of course after that I deserve a coffee break (Obviously, I don’t drink coffee, but I’d take a snack). Guess what I do at 16’o clock? Yes, its the homework that literally all the students think is lame (I actually like homework, they keep me busy and prevents me getting bored). When it comes to 17’o clock, I do ”Keep”, it is tiring to do two sets in a row, especially when they are tough. Finally after 17:30 I get to spend some time with my family and have some dinner.

Here is my schedule that I always follow unless all the work is done:

Remote Learning Reflection #2

Remote Learning Reflection #2

I have made a lot of progress in terms of learning after the last post. I was a risk-taker, because I started Python (Coding), it was tons of fun, I learned how to create variables, draw pictures and even make code that can calculate the area of spheres! My work is shown below:

a=float(input(‘The radius is’))
V=a**3*4/3*3.14
print(‘The Volume of the Sphere is %f’%V)

Besides coding, I have also worked hard on the activities, I finished all of them on this Tuesday, which was faster than I expected. In my opinion, electricity is a resource that modern-humans always rely on, but we should use and produce electricity in a more environmental way. After Tuesday, I got bored, very bored, therefore I worked on chess a lot too (Chesskid.com, Books and more). And for the teachers (if you are reading this blog), could you please give me some more work, I am so bored that I started lying on the bed and walking around doing nothing.

Thanks!

P.E. Remote learning Reflection 1

A video of me doing the plank, I actually did 2 minutes, but I only managed to upload half of it.

Even though it is remote learning and going out is limited, I still worked hard on sports and fitness. Recently, I have been using an app called ”Keep”, this app provides the costumers with a variety of sets, these include plank, push-up, sit-ups and more. Besides keep, I also did the Dragon net dances, some of them were harder than the others, but I liked “Funky town” the most, because the dancer in the video was dramatic and the moves easy and looked quite cool. During the balances activity, I decided to add the plank for 8 seconds at the end. Something I will try doing tomorrow is making the transitions smoother, some didn’t even last for 2-3 seconds
Overall, I made some progress in my fitness and the pain started to reduce.

Remote learning reflection #1

During remote learning at home, things are even busier than at school since I have the whole day planned. Today is the second day and I think I have made my day more balanced, to illustrate, I did a combination of sport, learning, games, and reading. In my opinion, remote learning is a great way of getting your self-control and time-management abilities better. Something I did well, was that I had a plan that I was following and the activities were finished in time. Next time I could improve on helping my sister a little more since she is a little stuck sometimes. As I worked through the activities, I was a confident learner, because I believed that I could get the learning out of it.
Hopefully the Chinese government and WHO can stop the corona virus and make school start again, and to be honest, I miss school.
